My qualifications. And why I am running
I have lived in East Lansing for 22 years and feel blessed to be part of this community. My desire to serve on the East Lansing Board of Education is a natural progression of my yearning to serve the community I love very dearly.
I have a Masters Degree in Software Engineering Administration and work as an IT Infrastructure Architect. I have had the opportunity to work on assigments for Chrysler, Johnson Controls, and various State of Michigan agencies – Department of Transportation, Department of Community Health, Department of State and for the last 15 years at the Department of Technology, Management and Budget.
I volunteer extensively in my local community. I am very concerned about social justice issues that affect the community and actively advocate for all affected parties.
I currently serve as a board member of the Michigan Chapter of the Council of American Islamic Relations and on the advisory board of the Michigan Muslim Community Council. I am member of Action of Greater Lansing and an active participant and role player in various community building organizations in and around Greater Lansing.
I have served in the past as the President of the Islamic Society of Greater Lansing and as a Chairperson of the Greater Lansing Islamic School. I am a strong believer in civic engagement and volunteer extensively in outreach efforts for the Islamic Center of East Lansing to bridge my faith community with the larger community and foster a spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood.
I served briefly this year on the community advisory board for East Lansing Info and had to give up that role when I filed to run for the School Board.
I was a founding member of the City of East Lansing’s Citizen Innovation and Technology Panel. I served two terms on the City of East Lansing Crystal awards committee.
With my wide range of professional expertise in the field of technology, and as a community builder with a strong desire to serve the community, and with past experience volunteering in the education system, I will bring skills, motivation, and energy to serve the school district. I wish to contribute by serving to help enhance the quality and experience of education for children and to care for the interests of educators who play a pivotal role in the growth and development of our children.
